We kept an eye on the weather, especially the wind, one of the most determining factors in Patagonia.

On the fifth day the wind changed and rain was forecast. This was not a problem for us, as we have four-wheel drive and good off-road tires.

We decided to give it a try anyway. Our next destination was a village only 100 km away, where we planned to replenish our supplies and refuel.

As we drove up the mountain pass we found the roads completely covered in snow.

The next 30 km took us 3 hours. When we reached the top of the pass we were in complete white and could make out the road. There were only 70 km to go to our destination, but as conditions continued to deteriorate we decided to turn around.
De omweg rond de bergen was 230 km.

Luckily we had enough fuel to cover the distance, which made our decision to turn around easy. Fortunately, situations like this are rare, but it gave us the opportunity to ride a route that we knew was safe, rather than having to risk a route because it was shorter.
